For Entry in the January ‘Favourite Film’ Competition ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are only two Disney animated movies I really love, The Lion King and Aladdin. I have never really liked anything else before or since. I admit, a lot of the older, classic Disney movies are cute and fun to watch but I could never go mad over them. Disney is one of the few remaining studios which continues to churn out the original ‘cartoon’ style animated movies as opposed to the CGI alternatives such as Shrek and Toy Story...although of course it does those too! Personally, I am not a huge fan of the cartoon ones, preferring the seemingly more comedic CGI versions but you certainly can’t deny the quality of these movies or their appeal to children. In Aladdin, Disney brings more fun into the movie as opposed to them being just fairytale romantic adventures a la Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid to name two which appeared closest and previous to this one. Aladdin is one of my favourite Disney films, and I have most of them, my children love them. Like most of the animated movies produced by Disney you’d have to say they’re only going to appeal to children, what do you expect in the kids section? But it will appeal to almost all children, and it’s one of the best. Obviously it’s about the classic fairytale of Aladdin, the poor boy who finds the lamp and falls in love with the princess, it’s what you’d expect really, not being too complicated.
