The Amityville Horror (DVD) ... released 24 October, 2005 at MGM Entertainment / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, Dubbed, PAL / Most horror movies establish an atmosphere of normality, which they gradually rupture with spooky or creepy or stomach-churning images. The Amityville Horror--a remake of the 1979 movie about a possessed house that torments the family that moves into it--tosses normality out the window in the first five minutes, unleashing a nonstop barrage of unsettling camera angles, decaying wood and stained wallpaper, half-glimpsed shadows in motion, fast edits of grotesque ghosts, and dozens of other horror-movie devices. Whether you like the movie will depend on whether you like feeling slightly nauseated and cut off from any semblance of reality--for many people, that's why they go to horror movies. Others won't be able to suspend disbelief that anyone but an actor would spend the time necessary to develop Ryan Reynold's insanely buff physique, prominently displayed as he runs around wearing nothing but a pair of loose-fitting pajama bottoms. In addition to Reynolds, the movie also features Philip Baker Hall and Melissa George. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

... was all a hoax. It doesn't matter - it was made into a bestselling book and a successful haunted house movie. This Amityville is truly scary...horrific even and Ryan Reynolds, heretofore known as a light comic actor (remember him in the TV series 2 Guys and a Pizza...or some such nonsense), turns in an extraordinary performance as a man who slowly but surely succumbs to the evil and terror of the ghosts and demons of the house he has moved his family into. "The Amityville Horror" is as frightening as you w...more

You know I love horror movies well here is one of the ones I have bought quite recently. After seeing and being scared by the original years ago I decided that I would give the 2005 remake a go. Now I am going to try a different approach to writing my film reviews so let me know if the other way was better. ----- What is it about? (Reading from the back of the box) From Michael Bay, the producer of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre comes the true story of Amityville. In November 1974, a family of six was brutally murdered. Now a year later, an unsuspecting young couple George and Kathy Lutz and their children move into the house that was ...

If you actually don't know the story behind this movie, here is how it goes. The house is possessed! This movie is actually suppose to be part two of the events that occured. The first event is told in the follow up Part Two. The family that first lived there had an older son who went crazy from the voices in his head. Eventually he becomes fully possessed and kills his entire family. But again, that is actually in the second movie. You only see short clips portraying that part of the story and general references made to the killings in this movie. So now we get to next events which are portrayed in this movie. The next family moves in and the possessed ...

In a small town named Amityville, at 3:15am on the 13th of November 1974, a son claims he is possessed by demons and shoots his entire family with a rifle, we join Amityville a year after these murders and the house they occurred in is still empty and still for sale because nobody dares to move in. Seeing as it's been on the market for so long, its also amazingly cheap, this attracts the Lutz's to it, and because they are having money trouble because they rely on the fathers small business to bring in the money. They know about the history, but it?s the only house they can afford to buy, the father also does not believe that the house is possessed in anyway. So ...
