If you have seen the film Nikita, then you have seen the far superior version of this movie. 'The Assassin' is a poor Hollywood remake of the gritty French thriller, failing miserably to capture the style of the original and offering little for your viewing pleasure. Anyway, for those who can't stand watching subtitled movies(Nikita is filmed in its natural language with english subtitles), then this is as close as you'll get to seeing one of cinema's finest movies. This is quite an old film. I have got it on video. When I first saw this movie I did not know who Antonio Banderas was, but now after watching that film I had to see if he was in any others. I have always liked Sylvester Stallone. I liked a lot of his films. When he was teamed up against Atonio in this film I thought that it was explosive. I have always liked this film. I always wanted to watch it again and the other day I did and I just wanted to say even though this is quite an old film, it is still brilliant. I would buy this film if I didn't already have it. If anyone has seen the french film Nikita you will know that is a classic movie that really requires viewing. Hollywood get their grubby little hands on the movie and re-make it into some real tripe. Briget Fonda plays the assasin and is quite frankly, unconvincing. Gabriel Burne also stars in this rehash of a good movie. There are no real action sequences of any decent calibur. The movie would have to be called character driven, but when I really couldn't care about the characters whats the point? ...
