The story line revolves around the use of a drug called “hallusion”, (again fictional, I assume) a very hallucinatory drug, by the girls who work at the nightclub. It has the end result that men are allowed to do as they will with the girls. Cue lots of naked bodies, lots of sex, and (especially) fetish scenes – women wrapped in plastic, leather wear and footwear also play a big part. So does the use of video cameras. This is the kind of movie you might find showing at an art house cinema. Made in 1992 and directed by Sato Hisayasu, it will probably attract film and media students, and the dirty mac brigade, of course. The title “The Bedroom” comes from the name of a fictional nightclub, which features as the backdrop for many of the scenes. The movie is also known as Shisenjiyou no Aria (translation – “An aria on gazes”), and was called “Unfaithful Wife: Shameful Torture” for its US release – a rather more moralistic title, I feel.
