Bulletproof Monk (DVD) ... Scott ... / DVD released 15 September, 2003 at Pathe Distribution / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, PAL, Widescreen / The tremendous charisma of Chow Yun-Fat anchors this entertaining comic-book romp. Bulletproof Monk centres around a monk with no name (Chow) dedicated to protecting a sacred scroll that can give world-manipulating power to anyone who reads it. A hidden Nazi has been pursuing the scroll for 60 years and has finally caught up with the monk in present-day New York City; meanwhile, the monk suspects he may have found a disciple in a petty thief (Seann William Scott) who's learned kung fu from watching double-feature chopsocky flicks. Don't let the presence of Chow Yun-Fat lead you to expect much substance--this doesn't have the emotional scope of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or the visual panache of Hard-Boiled. But Bulletproof Monk is a cheerful, tightly edited, unpretentious action flick with flashes of humour, good for a mindless evening's entertainment. --Bret Fetzer

... isn’t meant to be. The cast is pretty weak. Aside from Chow Yun-Fat and Seann William Scott, none of the cast made me think “oh that person is from…” That’s not a good thing. The other members of the cast (and I had to research what films these people came from) include Jamie King (Sin City), Karel Roden (Hellboy), Sean Bell (The Uncles) and K.C. Collins (Seventeen Again). The unique pair of Seann William Scott (the guy from comedies like Dude Where’s My Car) and Chow Yun-Fat (the Chinese ass-kicker from kung-fu ...more

after watching this film i was left with a horrible sensation that i'd just wasted a good hour and a half watching this piece of nonsense drivel! I was actually looking forward to seeing this movie as i like Chow Yun Fats movies and i think Sean William Scotts always good for a laugh(even if it is playing basically the same character in most of his films) but i couldnt hide my disapointment and disbelief that either of these actors would have taken the roles in this film if they had read the script first. This was a truly poor attempt to get Chow Yun Fat into the mainstream western market not unlike the early attempts to break Jackie Chan into this market aswell. ...

Premium Review Can films be Bulletproof? (1361 words)

Ever watched a movie you thought was so bad that you felt like crying? Well put it this way, Bulletproof Monk (BM) was that movie for me. Directed by Paul Hunter (who is known for way too many music videos), this is a sloppy attempt to re-create the magic of those Kung-Fu films. While the unique pair of Chow Yun-Fat and Seann William Scott is good, the cast is substandard; the film is too long; the stunts look poor and, well, the film is just boring. Thank the heavens I watched this on TV and didn’t pay for the DVD. You should definitely avoid this film. -(The Plot)- An unnamed Monk (Chow Yun-Fat) receives a scroll which gives anyone who reads the script ...

STARRING: Chow Yun-Fat, Seann William Scott, Jaime King and Karel Roden DIRECTOR: Paul Hunter PRODUCERS: John Woo and Terence Chang CERTIFICATE: PG-13 RUNNING TIME: 103 Mins BASED ON: The 1999 3-part comic book miniseries published by Image and Flypaper Press, cowritten by Gotham Chopra, son of spiritual guru Deepak. Yeah, it's quite cool... not amazing, but not bad either - that is a really straight to the point, simplified review of the film. I think it would be hard for anyone to dislike a Chow Yun-Fat film, let alone a Chow Yun-Fat film where he's battling a Nazi throughout. However, a combination of average direction and ...
