I never understood why everyone used to get so excited about Pier Paolo Pasolini. People used to talk about him as if he was some kind of gay, dead Italian version of Ken Russell. The only films of his I'd ever seen were his decent enough early neo-realist efforts, some really tedious versions of Greek myths and that film where Terence Stamp sleeps with everybody. Then I saw Salo, and developed a certain amount of respect for the man and his work. So I decided to go and see Canterbury Tales at the cinema when the opportunity arose.
