The slasher movie gets yet another post Scream outing in he form of Cherry Falls, directed by the same guy who brought us Urban Legend. It differs from the usual slasher flick in one rather ingenious way, putting an entire new postmodern spin on the whole thing. Interesting it is in this respect, but sadly there isn't much else to it to keep our interest. It begins in the town of Cherry Falls, a name which is a play on the main focus of the movie. A killer is bumping off the local high school kids, picking solely on those who are known to be virgins, killing them brutally and carving the word virgin into their flesh. I always tend to head my reviews with quotes from the movie if I can, and even the most Z-grade slasher has a few lines that are hilarious...intentionally or otherwise. 'Cherry Falls' is no exception, and that's why I've picked my favourite line from this slack teen horror, that appeared in the resurrected sub-genre almost as an afterthought. The rest of the script seems to be made up of lines randomly snipped out of a copy of Smash Hits magazine. Spiky haired loser: "Why are you wearing lipstick?" Maniac wearing make-up: "Because it makes me look pretty!" Forgetting everything 'Scream' ...

When I was in the states last summer the first film I ventured to see was X-Men and an advert was in front of it telling cinemas goers that Cherry Falls would be hitting a cinema near you this fall. Well it never arrived in the states but did get a release in the UK. There is a story behind this film. Those who have watch it may find it a tad disjointed and the deaths scenes very fleeting. Well there is a reason for this. The US censors had a hard time with some of the scenes in the film and as a result wouldn't grant it an 'R' rating unless cuts were made.
