Following the success of Conan the Barbarian in 1982, 1984 saw the sequel, Conan the Destroyer, with Arnold Schwarzenegger once again taking the lead role. The film was toned down a little to attract wider and younger audiences than Barbarian did, and it was released in the same year as Terminator, which is perhaps Arnie's most famous role. This sequel to Conan the Barbarian has just been released on Region 2 DVD. This film has a more comic book feel to it than the first film and has a bit more humour, it certainly has more action sequences. The story follows Conan and his companions on a quest to help bring a dead God back to life and so win the resurrection of his lost love Valaria (who died in the first film). It has elements taken from the original Conan novels to make up the story and is general Sword and Sorcery fare,, and although it is not as dark as the original with its tale revenge, it is still a worthy sequel. The picture is very good and is presented in 2.35:1 ...
