This is an adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel Congo released back in 1995 and directed by Frank Marshall. The only real star in the film was Tim Curry who played Herkermer Homolka and he is the only person in the film that comes out of it with any credit. Although for most of the film he really doesnt have to try. The plot isnt graeat as its about a team of people are sent into the Congo to find a large diamond mine and get as many diamonds as possible out of it. Overall I dint think this was a great film and I didnt really enjoy the book either but its worth at least one watch. ...

Based on the book by Michael Crichton, Congo is the sort of film you should only watch if you're not looking for realism, but just a fun action romp for an afternoon's video viewing. The basic story is about an expedition that goes into the jungles of Africa, supposedly to set free an ape reared by a Univerity and taught to sign. Unbeknown to the University professor and his ape is a big bad company wanting to get its hands on some priceless diamonds. Trashily enjoyable adaptation of Michael Crichton's very worst book, a story of intelligent gorillas, volcanoes, killer albino apes, buried treasure and hysterical accents. A group of scientists go deep into the Congo to find out what terrible fate befell a previous expedition hunting a perfect diamond which will revolutionise communications technology.
