I have to say that when ths came out atthe cinema I thougt "Oh hell no...wild horses wouldn't get me to see THAT movie". I thought Hollywood would make their usual pigs ear of the whole 'woman in a mans world' story or turn it into a piece of exploitative claptrap - the title G. I. Jane does little to make you think otherwise. However, that of course was recogning without Ridley Scott being the man in the director's chair here and of course, he manages to produce another fine movie, we shouldn't really expect much else. Don't get me wrong, I was expecting to dislike this film before I went to see it. The premise seemed weak and the reviews that I read were that it was awful. I've got to say though, it really impressed me. The idea behind this film, is that a woman is allowed in to the elite Navy Seals as a sop to Feminists. The political machinations are interesting and fairly believable and the female Senator is superb (is it Olympia Dukakis? hmmmm...it might be). The script and the action sequences are well done and Demi Moore turns in a respectable performance as political pawn out to prove herself. The Master-Chief (Drill-instructor) is a grade-A ...
