Well you've probably guessed it, this is a review about the action packed, alien saga Independence day, released on July 3rd 1996, and starring Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman. This is to date my favourite Will Smith action will along side Bad Boys 1 and 2. It's probably the movie that made Will Smith into an international box office success, and was certainly a step up from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I was actually a huge fan of this film, and I would have to say it ranks in my all time top 5 action film list; it had a great cast, a great plot, and superb special effect scenes. About two years ago, I saw this film for the first time on VHS and then decided to buy it on dvd to see how much better the quality was. To say the least, I was disappointed. The quality isn't improved at all, The makers have just added extra features to the disc(s). At the time of purchase I paid £11.99 for this 2 disc DVD, which is quite good considering the price you pay for DVD's these days lol. Disc one is entitled ''The Invasion''. If you look at my list of film reviews, you'll see that whilst I am certainly a fan of extremely good thought-provoking films, I also enjoy watching complete and utter rubbish! I'll leave you to guess which category Independence Day falls into... Oh, go on then. To stop you exploding with the tension, I'll tell you. Independence Day is an unremittingly crap film, but crap in a fun, enjoyable way. From start to finish, it's jam packed with clichéd characters, appalling dialogue, cheesy over-sentimentality and a plot that you could write on the back of a postage stamp and still have room for your weekly shopping list.
