Jack Frost (DVD) ... DVD released 15 November, 1999 at Warner Home Video / Features of the DVD: Full Screen, PAL, Widescreen / Whatever you do, don't confuse this Jack Frost with the 1997 comedic horror flick of the same name (its tagline: "He's chillin ... and killin'"). This family film stars Michael Keaton as Jack Frost, an aspiring musician, loving husband and occasionally absent father. Frost's life is unexpectedly cut short by a car accident and a year after his death he comes back as--you guessed it--a snowman, to help his family heal (Kelly Preston and Joseph Cross as wife and son Gabby and Charlie, respectively). The sudden death may affect sensitive younger viewers but by the time Frost returns the movie is more light-hearted and the film's message is a worthy one. There's an underlying theme that supports independence, and Gabby isn't saddled with a new dude by the film's end. There's also a good rapport developed between father and son, and especially mother and son. If an audience can take that huge leap of faith to accept the premise (as youthful audiences will no doubt be able to do), this is entertaining family fare. --N F Mendoza

... Charlie. They had a lot of fun together. Because of his busy schedule recording music, he missed his son hockey game. Afterward, he promised his son that they would spend time together. But it didn't turn out that way because of one phone call. He had to hit the road on Christmas day for his music contract that he had dreamed for. With second thought, he decided to turn around because he thought family is more than money. On the way home, he had an accident and it took his life. The kid had no fun left when his old man ha...more

I'm sure everyone has a film they watched as a kid, and still love to watch it avidly now. Well this film is mine. I've never been a fan of the 'mundane' films like Wizard Of Oz, I preferred even from an early age, films that maybe not everyone had seen. The Plot Jack Frost is a up and coming musician, which means he doesn't get to spend all the time he wants with his wife and kid. His kid Charlie adores the ground he walks on, but after Jack promises Charlie, that they'll go up to the cabin for Christmas, his faith in his father is shot down, when Jack's band gets a record contract, but they need to be at this place on Christmas eve. Ok I admit it, when house-sitting for friends a while back and stumbling across a VHS tape with the words Jack Frost scrawled across it I immediately thought that it might be the horror movie of the same name and slapped it in the video player expecting a little visceral entertainment. It didn't take long to realise I was mistaken when Warner Brother's 1998 (not '88 as Dooyoo will tell you!) family yawnathon popped into view instead of a 1997's horror comedy featuring a psychotic snowman with a razorbade smile! Still, sometimes the initially most unappealing movies can surprise you and as I hadn?t endured it yet I thought I?d give Jack Frost a try anyway. ...

Ah, Sunday evenings. What would we do without them? Probably just go to bed on Sunday afternoons. But I'll tell you one thing, those Sunday evenings sure do provide some spectacularly mediocre television highlights. Take, for example, this Sunday's family movie offering from Sky Premier, 'Jack Frost'. Michael Keaton, (increasingly a competitor with Steve Guttenberg for levels of mediocrity) plays Jack Frost, a father and lead singer in 'The Jack Frost Band'. After a long tour, Frost arrives home to spend Christmas with his family. Frost gives his son, Charlie (Joseph Cross), a harmonica that he bought on the day of the son's birth, ...
