Kingpin (DVD) ... Quaid ... / DVD released 15 November, 1999 at Entertainment in Video / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, PAL / The team behind Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary--two really stupid, gross-out films that worked and were quite funny--also made King Pin, a really stupid, gross-out comedy that doesn't work and isn't funny at all. Woody Harrelson stars as a former bowling phenomenon with a hook for a hand, and Randy Quaid is an Amish farmer with a hidden talent for pins. The two join forces and get a sexy business partner (Vanessa Angel), and the film starts looking more and more like a jokey variation of The Colour of Money. The Colour of Money, however, didn't feature jokes about having oral sex with a hideous landlady or defecating in a sink or dragging disgusting stuff out of one's teeth with a length of floss. Bill Murray provides some much-needed relief as Harrelson's ex-partner turned rival. How come this stuff is obnoxious while the equally perverse punch lines of There's Something About Mary are a riot? It's a great mystery, all right, but there it is. --Tom Keogh

... manages to convince absent-minded Woody to bowl for money against gangsters late at night. Of course Woody won and the gangsters got pretty annoyed. Bill left Woody stranded and the gangsters cut off Woody’s bowling hand which, of course means that his bowling career is over. Years later (the film misses them out) Woody minds hope in Randy Quaid Amish farm boy who’s average score is 270 but he plays fifteen frames for some reason. Woody thinks Randy may be able to win a million-dollar bowling tournament...more

Not being a big comedy fan, when I was given this video I wasn’t too bothered about watching it. Yet this movie came from the creators of, ‘Dumb And Dumber’, and ‘There’s Something About Mary’, so I thought that it was worth a look. The film is based around one main character, Roy Munsen (Woody Harrelson), who from an early age demonstrates a major talent for bowling and becomes the 1979 Amateur State Champion. So the professional tour looms on the horizon, and with the help of bitter rival Ernie McCracken (Bill Murray) he tries to hustle a few extra bucks. Unfortunately it alls goes wrong for Roy who turns from bowling wizard ...

Being a big fan of the Farrelly brothers and their gross out comedies such as 'Dumb and Dumber' and 'There's Something About Mary',this was an early aquisition to my fledgling DVD collection. I would point out early on though that this review is of the Region One disc, labelled as 'Directors' cut'.The region two disc available here has few of the extra features of my beauty,so if you've got a multi region machine try and pick this up from DVDboxoffice.com where it'll cost you about £13.50 all in.The R2 disc has a yellow cover with only Vanessa Angel on whereas this has the whole motley trio on the box. The film is ...

Maybe it's even too much for my crude sense of humour, lover of Farrely Brothers films that i am. See what you think. The story goes... Fresh young bowling champion Peter Munsen (Woody Harrelson) leaves small town to make it big in the state finals. Fresh young bowling champion meets sleazy con-artist bowler (Bill Murray) who offers him a chance to make some money. This results in him being without a bowling hand, literally. Seventeen(ish) years pass by and we see Munsen as a hard liquor drinker living in a dump with no attachments other than a really bad prosthetic rubber hand (this is not a sensitive film and isn't ashamed of ridiculing any ...
