'Leviathan' was one of the brief late-80s boom in underwater creature features, which also included 'Deep star 6' and James Cameron's ponderous 'The Abyss'. Of the three, 'Leviathan' is probably the most enjoyable for b-movie or horror film fans, and in many ways, it comes across as a glossy but trashy version of 'Alien' or John Carpenter's remake of 'The Thing'. The film has pretty much the same plot as the others in the sub-genre: workers who live on a deep underwater station come across an old, mysterious Soviet submarine.
