Obviously I have been proved wrong. When I first read about the upcoming ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie, I was sceptical to say the least. Could it be done? I was doubtful. We all know what it’s like to love a book, then go and see the movie and come out of the cinema feeling utterly disappointed. Sometimes the casting is hopeless, or the plot is all over the place, or the film simply doesn’t fit in with the way you imagined it. Either way, it leaves you feeling pretty let down. Despite being rather dubious of the attention lavished upon Peter Jackson’s epic production of Tolkien’s greatest novels, I must confess to experiencing eager anticipation of this movie. I am a big fan of fantasy films, purely because the writers and creators can truly let their imaginations run riot. Despite having never properly read The Fellowship of the Ring (I abandoned ship after about fifty pages) I was assured that this was one of the finest fantasy stories ever written and that the movie would be three hours of sheer, unadulterated enjoyment.
