HG Well’s novel was always going to be ripe pickings for a modern day makeover. The story of invaders from another planet has been made before but that was back in the day when even calculators were the stuff of dreams. "No one would have believed in the last years of the 19th Century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized as someone with a microsope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets, and yet across the gulf of space, minds immeasurable superior to ours reguarded this earth with envious eyes and slowly and surely they drew their plans against us....." And so the Martians attacked earth way back in 1953, the year my mother was born! In fact, I have never seen the film 'The War of ...
