Advantages: Great games, Reasonable price, Amazing online service,
Disadvantages: Bad console design causing errors, Noisy
In February 2007 I decided to buy an Xbox360 'Premium'(now called Pro) system after sampling the Xbox Live feature at a friend's house. There was a guarantee of a slew of exciting looking games arriving in the coming year so I bit the bullet and purchased an Xbox 360!
My first impression unboxing was what in the world is this power supply for? The power brick for the Xbox 360 was MASSSIVE, and very heavy. Anyway I kept on digging through the packing and came across the main console. A sleek looking white modern machine which looked like it had been designed by Apple.
I threw aside the box with Xbox Live headset and cables and plugged in the necessary cables to connect it to the television and turned it on.
Then this low frequency 'burr' like a mini helicopter started. The disc tray and fan in the console are comparable to a loud PC. I had to turn my television over the normal listening volume to be able to hear the game properly. But after a few hours of gaming you get used to it, it might not be advisable to play it at night as it could easily wake somebody up!
I was playing a number of games I had purchased for a month or so before I got Xbox live after buying the outrageously priced £60 Wireless adapter. Now all the above niggles were irrelevant, Xbox Live was the most amazing experience I had taken part in. I was playing with gamers from all over the world and thoroughly addicted.
The service is really social and you can have parties of friends who you can chat with whilst in different games and team up on your favourite game together.
Fast forward two years.....
I'm currently without my Xbox 360 as I write this review after receiving its 2nd 'Red Ring of Death'(A common hardware error which makes the console useless) .....And it was still worth every penny. Sure the Xbox360 console has major design flaws (well documented bad design which causes it to overheat), but it has great games and THE best online gaming service available.
I compare the Xbox 360 to an Italian sports car. Its unreliable, sometimes impractical but most fun for your money you can have........when it works.
Summary: The mid priced console with all the features
