The Big Console Debate: XBOX 360

Microsoft Xbox 360
Advantages: Many capabilities both online and offline.
Disadvantages: 'Red Ring' Rumour.
There seems to be an ongoing debate between gamers: the Sony PS3, or the Microsoft XBOX 360. I was brought up as a playstation girl, my dad's an interior designer and the look of the playstation went far better with his colour scheme! However, when I met my partner, he had an XBOX 360. I can honestly say, despite my brother still being a PS3 lad, I am fully converted to the XBOX.
The XBOX is a user-friendly console, which, although there have been many horror stories about the "red ring of doom", I have always found mine to be extremely reliable. I feel that if you look after your XBOX and keep it in a place where it's well ventilated and can't overheat, it will serve you well. However, getting the year's warrantee is advisable, if only for your own peace of mind!
The games for the XBOX 360 are vast, the Halo franchise being a major perk. There are few games out on other games consoles that are exclusive to them and the ones that are, mostly get brought out on the XBOX after a little while.
The main reason I would recommend an XBOX is XBOX Live. Yes, other consoles have free online capabilities, but XBOX Live is very easy to use, and very cheap (around £5 a month, or £35 a year) and very worth it. Not only can you talk to your friends, you can rent out films (using Microsoft points), buy exclusive independent games, as well as the reintroduction of arcade classic games and even use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, all at the click of a button.
The XBOX wireless controllers are responsive. However, they do not have a very long battery life so getting a spare to always have on charge is advisable.
So, are there downsides to having an XBOX 360? Yes, as with any console, it has its downsides. The fan in the back of the console that keeps it cool can be a little loud, not that I'd mind if it's stopping the console from freezing up! There is the "red ring" issue, which although I've never experienced it myself, have heard a lot about. However, you can get a warrantee and the console itself can now be bought very cheaply online. The white exterior of the console can get a little grubby if not dusted regularly, but you can buy customised faces and cases to personalize it yourself. Ultimately, I believe the XBOX 360 is an amazing console, with so many pros, the cons can easily be ignored or dealt with.
Summary: The Gamer's console.
