Advantages: Superb graphics
Disadvantages: Tendancy to break, noisy (old ones), lots of needed accessoires to pay for
So Microsoft have brought out a new version of their Xbox360, I suppose after PS3 brought out the PS3 slim they had to "upgrade" their console a little bit. I wonder if people with the new 360's get the "three light's of death" like most people with the old one did.
Let's start off : The idea for the Xbox 360 came about in February 2003 and it was released in November 22nd 2005. That Christmas I got my 360 but had to reason with myself because the only one's left in stock were the "arcade" ones and as i couldn't wait I got one of those - Wrong idea.
Got back home and yes you guessed I had no memory to save my games or anything, yes Microsoft wanted to con I don't know how much money out of us just to get the basics to play a game, the hard drive cost me 90Euro for a 20GB drive. I was content that I could finally play a game.
Another great option (and I state -option- because you have to pay for it) is that you can play multiplayer games with people in the world. Ok so after paying for the HD and Xbox Live I'd already pay the price of the premium console plus a bit more, second problem my ethernet cable wasn't long enough to reach the console from my modem, so you guessed it more money for the wireless adaptor that cost me 60Euro, so I could eventually play multiplayer games and what not but this set me back alot of money altogether I must have paid 500Euro for the accessories just to get a multiplayer game going. Not good Xbox when PS does all this for free...
When the PS3 came out I thought it was extremely dear for what it was, but now when I look back the xbox360 has nothing to compare it to, no bluray drive, no intergrated wireless, no wireless controller as standard (well until now) no free multiplayer, so to be quite honest Microsoft haven't done so well for themselves.
On the other hand, the 360 offers great and I mean great graphics but the game's set you back quite alot, here we pay 60/70Euro for a game so in comparaison to the Wii it's almost double sometimes. Some of the games feel so real it's actually unbelievable and I was using it without HD so I can't imagine with.
The most amazing game called Halo is only available on Xbox and now I'm really sad that I can no longer play it due to the Red Ring Of Death (I'll explain more later)
The console itself is actually plain ugly from my point of view. A white box is all I saw it as and for the "premium" ones a silver tray...Not very "premium" is it? No. For some reason the arcade versions had tendancy to make alot and I mean alot of noise when a game was played, almost as though the console was about to take off.
The Xbox360's controller is the same as the first Xbox except you have an Xbox sign in the middle which allows you to pause the game and a menu arrives at the side of the screen with a music player and various log in info and return to home screen etc. Basically you have :
- 4 buttons
- 2 joysticks
- 2 triggers
- 1 arrow pad
- 1 start / 1 select button
- 1 Xbox button
The controllers are availabe with or without wires in black and white...
The biggest problem with the older Xbox360's (aswell as with mine) is that after a while the glue that hold the CPU to it's "cooler" eventually melts all over the CPU and GPU(central processing unit and graphics unit) and ceases operation... And this is Microsoft we're talking about and they put glue that is able to melt in a part of a console that heats up alot. Logical...I think not. I found a useful way to repair this yourself by going on the internet and following step by step instructions and you guessed it my processors had glue all over them, no wonder it ceased operation.
In all, I'm not really that impressed in with Microsoft even though I'd for some reason still defend Microsoft against Sony
Summary: Not very good Microsoft
