Advantages: Wide range of games
Disadvantages: have to pay to use online features
The Xbox 360 isn't just aimed at 'hard core gamers' but at families and casual gamers alike. The wide range of games available means it can be used by children, adults and all in between.
The dashboard is easy to use and navigate, as well as being easy to set child settings as well. It is the ability to play videos, music and connect to the internet and use things such as Love Film that sets it apart from other consoles. Its online gaming content is second to none but that fact you have to pay for Xbox Gold is disappointing as other consoles don't charge to use the online section of the games that are released for them. However, since multiplayer is one of the main plus points of the console most people pay to use it as they like the ability to play against or with their friends in a party or even to talk to friends as they play completely different games.
The console has the ability to store game saves on a memory card, the optional hard drive or even on the Cloud meaning that you always have your back ups safe and secure. It also has the ability to use the Kinect which has another range of games made especially for it, opening up the possibilities of control for the console too.
As a console I would recommend it over others such as the Wii (which I own) or a Playstation 3 for family entertainment and hardcore gaming alike.
Summary: A family console
