Advantages: Keeps kids amused for hours, some games do help you focus more
Disadvantages: Hinge Breaks easily, Dots appear on the screen
I have a Nintendo DS Lite at home for myself, two for my kids and 12 more for my niece and nephews which I gave to them as Christmas, birthday presents. It may cost £100 mark for a new one but it gives you endless hours of entertainment even for grownups! They have a massive collection of games, puzzles, programmes also you can add WIFI to it via an adapter.
You cannot fault the Nintendo DS for its design and gaming experience, except for one flaw. It's durability.
I have had my Nintendo DS Lite for just over 13 months and hardly used it in that time, except to train my brain with the Brain Training Academy. However, I am disappointed and annoyed that a crack has appeared in the hinge and a dot on the touch screen, which is noticeable and distracting when playing games with dark images. It is literally just out of warranty and I will have to pay around half the price of a new DS to repair it. Ironically, the DS has not been man-handled but stored carefully in a carry case out of harm's way. So as a word of caution, keep your proof of purchase so you can claim under the 12 month warranty should you need to. Otherwise, happy gaming!
For kids one of the leather cases should be used as if any dropped then it WILL break, the right hand hinge holds the top screen on to the bottom half and easily breaks upon impact of falling on the floor etc. Have so far got three hinges changed over by my local game shop who charged around £10 per Hinge including labour.
Summary: Get it, Play it but make sure you dont break it!

- 08/01/09 Bought one on the Internet from Hong Kong for my son for Christmas. Only place I could get one in the colours he wanted (Cobalt Blue and Black). Despite warnings that these are often fakes, it seems genuine enough and certainly works well! Time will tell. |
