Advantages: Easy to carry around, easy to use, LOADS of games, good value for money.
Disadvantages: Games can be pricey, but some good deals if you look around.
I've had my Nintendo DS for around six months, and compared to previous handheld consoles I have owned, this completely floors them all!
The console is really easy to use. It is essentially folded in half, and you open it up to find two screens. One a touch screen that you can operate with the provided stylus (it comes with a spare one too which is handy). The stylus has a little holder on the side of the console too so you won't lose it! It's a nice size too, easy to fit in a handbag without it taking up lots of space, and surprisingly light. It weighs no more than a standard paperback novel would.
One great thing about the DS is the vast range of games that are available for it, with more and more great titles being adapted for the DS and coming out all of the time. From DS recipe books/cooking guides, role playing games and the numerous games that you'd find for the PC or Playstation, there is something for everybody and for all ages. If you were a big fan of the N64, lots of those games have been adapted for the DS, I was so happy to find Mario 64 for my DS, as it's probably one of my favourite games ever. Also Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney is a another fab series. Another bonus, is that you can play your Gamebody Advance games on the DS too!
One downside to the DS is that the games are a little pricey, however you can usually find good quality used games on ebay, and in game stores. There are also a lot of bundle packages available where your DS will come with one, two or even three games. Obviously as a dooyoo member you can always use your miles to buy games on Amazon too! Furthermore, you can multi-play games on different DS consoles WIRELESSLY, without each player needing to have the same game cartridge, which is great if you have kids who all want to play Mario Kart at the same time! You don't need three copies of the same game!
As for the age range a DS is suitable for: anywhere from 5 to 105! It's so simple to use, there are plenty of games for youngsters, and the brain training is great for the older generation: that's not to say they won't like playing lego batman or GTA though!
The DS Lite may not be a piece of all singing, all dancing gadgetry like the PSP, but it's definitely a much better console, and without all the extra gadgets there's a LOT less to go wrong!
Summary: DS Lite: The best compact, handheld games console on the market.
