Advantages: Easy to use.
Disadvantages: None that I can see.
It's not an exaggeration to say this is the best thing I have ever bought!
I bought my DS lite in December 2007 in the Christmas rush, and in January 2009 I still play on it almost daily.
The Brain Training games were what drew me to the DS originally, but soon after purchasing it I discovered that there was a whole range of games I found enjoyable from RPGs to multiplayer puzzles. When I first bought it, I was under the impression that it was mainly for kids, but over a year later, I've not run out of adult games.
The DS was such a hit with me, that I got my Mom one for Mothers' Day and she's still hooked. Just proving the longeivity of the console.
The DS is just so easy to use and has such a wide catalogue of games that it's suitable for any person of any age or gaming taste.
However, I would point out that before you go and rush and buy one, Nintendo is planning to bring out a new version around spring time. This new version will have a camera, and an SD card slot. But in my opinion, is not as attractive as the sleek DS lite. If you're a fan of Guitar Hero, or have a bunch of GBA games left over, then I'd avoid the new version as unlike the DS lite, it won't feature a GBA slot.
Summary: Best thing I've ever bought!
