Advantages: Light, Good looking, Well Built. WiFi. Dual Screen.
Disadvantages: None.
I bought myself this handheld a couple of years ago to use for travel on my way to work. It has been my trusty companion ever since living in my coat pocket.
The sleek black design make it look less like a toy and with the headphones plugged in I am sure many who sit around me wonder what I am doing on it. It looks great and it is very well built. Solid, and firm.
The battery life lasts for hours and I don't find myself charging it that often. It can easily last for three days with heavy playing. The screen is vibrant, sharp and clear. Sound is excellent through the built in speakers but bettered through external headphones.
The DS is backwards compatible and will play gameboy colour games through the slot underneath where your wrists are when holding the DS. The top slot is for DS games. It also has two screens which is a new concept which many of the newer games use. The bottom one is touch sensitive allowing you to use a stylus.
One excellent feature is that you can buy a game cartridge that allows you to surf the internet on the DS via a WiFI spot.
Homebrew is on the DS also exists with a huge community constantly making programs that work on it such as MSN Messenger.
Apart from that, the unit itself came boxed well, well protected, and with a spare stylus. I have it kept in a protective DS case that I found for a few quid. It is worth investing in because you wouldn't want to scratch it.
Summary: The Nintendo DS should be everyones travel companion. A real beauty.
