Advantages: Amazing, clever design. Great sound, graphics and controls.

Disadvantages: None

The DS (Dual Screen) is a compact games system that opens up to produce two LED screens. The bottom screen is a touch screen and using a pen like stylus, you can operate games with it by usng it to draw, poke and prod.
Alongside the bottom screen is the classic mash and bash buttons as well as a cross shaped controller.
Along the spine is a microphone, which can be used in games when you need to make a sound to go further on levels.
There is a charger included in this set which gives a long battery life and therefore many hours of fun play.
The power button is a small slide button on the side of the console, so is easy to operate and at the bottom is slots available for headphones and the charger.
If like me, you have a GBA you can play these on the DS, something that cant be done on the new version, the DSi. There are two game cartridge slots. The top one is smaller and is for the DS games. The bottom slot is larger and for the GBA games.

I have previously owned the classic nintendo game boy and the game boy advance so when the DS was released I was quite excited. However I was put off by the whole touch screen and the stylus, as it was something that I have never used or seen before, so I was a bit dubious. When I started playing the games on it, I was so surprised, it was so much better than I thought it was going to be and this technique has definitely revolutionised game playing. It is such a clever technique that lets you be more hands on in the game and allows you to play in detail. You can use the stylus to write, move, punch, chop etc and each technique is applicable to certain games.

The two screens allow a larger visonary aspect, and the graphics produced are brilliant, slightly better than those on the N64 with absolutely gorgeous bright sharp colours. There is an in built speaker which gives great sound.

All in all this is a great little machine. It is small and compact and can easily fit in your pocket, so is great for the work/school commute or to take on holiday. The games that are provided are brilliant, extremely addictive and there is a wide variety so there is something for everyone.

Summary: The new generation of handheld gaming
