Advantages: brilliant fun for all ages.

Disadvantages: none! ! !

My daughter bought one of these when they first came out in ASDA for £100.00. That was on it's own with no games or accessories, but they were new then so that wasn't too bad. You can now get bundles on amazon and ebay with various accessories and games for less than £99.00.

When you buy a nintendo DS lite on their own, compared to the old DS, you can clearly see that it is lighter in weight and had a much more sleek and shiny design. It is very modern looking and is a good small size so you can put it in a glove box in the car, in your pocket or in a handbag with ease so it's easy to carry around with you. When my daughter bought hers, all she got was the DS, two of the stylus's and an instructions manual that told you how to turn the console on and off etc.

The DS's do have a chat room on them, but my daughter hasn't ever been able to use it, I think you have to be pretty close which is pointless because you could just talk to each other.

The games for the DS lite are some cards that slot into the back. You don't have to open up the console to put them in and it's very simple so it's easy for younger or older people to do because it isn't too fiddly.

The console flips open and there are two screens, the normal one on the lid and the touch screen one on the bottom. There are speakers either side of the screen and there are the two buttons, where your index fingers go on the back of the console, similar to the R1 and L1 buttons on a ps2 controller. You have the control pad on the left with the up, down, right and left arrow buttons and on the right, you have the x,y,b and a buttons. There is also the start and select buttons. The volume control is on the underside of the DS which slides rather than a button which I like, I think it is different compares to other consoles.

There is a cartridge under the bottom screen that you can take out and play game boy games on which I think is brilliant for people who have both consoles because you can then use the DS to play DS games and your old Game boy games. The pen slides into a little gap in the top right hand side of the DS making it fairly hard to lose it which is good.

There is a little loop hole on one of the corners so you can attach little phone charms or attach the DS to a neck tie if you wanted to.

When you turn the DS on, you can put your birthday into it and set the time and date. You then go to the menu which has the chatroom, the ds game or the gameboy game if one is inserted. You simply touch the one you want with the pen.

The touchscreen is very accurate and you don't have to press it hard to make it work. If you do a dot, it appears where you click, not to the left or right which you often find with touchscreens like phones. It is really good quality.

Both screens have great quality and are easy to see games on. They're much better than original gameboys and the graphics are more clear than on the original DS as well.

There are lots of games for the DS, some like peppa pig for younger kids and then some games like driving theory tests for adults which is incredibly helpful and good.

Playing games on the DS lite is really easy. The touchscreen makes the games feel more realistic, like spreading the butter around the pan in cooking mama, you can get more involved in the games and that makes the whole experience more fun.

The console isn't paticularly fragile as you would expect. My daughter has dropped hers countless times and it is still in great condition with very few bumps and scratches. Its performance hasn't been affected in the slightest.

When you buy it, I forgot to mention earlier, that you do recieve a wall charger for the DS. It charges fairly quickly, and the battery is full after abuot 3 hours. The DS can work for about a good 6 hours if not more after being charged which is a lot better than some of the other handheld consoles I have used.

You can buy lots of accessories for the DS now, from new stylus's to carry cases and stickers that look brilliant on them. The DS lite is now available in pink, red, green and blue etc compared to when it first came out and was only available in black or white.

You can get some game cards with more than one game on, like the boggle, battleships and monopoly one. These are great, paticularly for longer distance journeys where you can't carry lots of games. I have a few like this, and it's convenient to change games without having to change cartridges.

It's a great game console from Nintendo, I think it is really fun to play with, and unlike many, it's great for young children, teens and adults, so it's popular with everyone.

I highly recommend this game and think it has been worth every penny. My daughter has had it for about three years now and she still uses it a lot now. I've just bought my little boy one for christmas, a red one with some of the younger games, so it is definitely a highly regarded toy in our house. The only problem is, if you buy one for the kids, there's a good chance they won't get a turn because you'll be on there, so if you do buy one, get one for yourself as well!

They're worth every penny so go get one!

Summary: A great handheld game console from nintendo!
