Advantages: FUN ! ! ! , touch screen, durable desighn, sterio sound, wi - fi, and a long battery life

Disadvantages: Sound can be a little quiet at times

The Nintendo DS is no ordinary console. At first glance it appears to be merely an upgraded Game Boy Advance, but when you flip open the 148.7mm wide, 84.7mm long, 28.9mm tall clamshell case, you're faced with not one but two 3 inch backlit TFT screens, both with a resolution of 256x192 pixels and capable of displaying 260,000 colours. You'll find one screen placed in the lid and another on the base. The base's screen is touch-sensitive, similar to that of a PDA.

The DS adds a unique and fun aspect to gaming. The touch screen acts as a precise analogue controller in games such as Need for Speed Underground DS, or a fun and highly addictive way to draw and tap Mario and the guys through the mini games on Super Mario DS. Another Innovative feature has to be the built-in 802.11 Wi-Fi. The DS supports 802.11 wireless in a Nintendo proprietary format so that you can play multiplayer games with other DS owners within a range of 30ft. - 100ft. (depending on conditions and if there's walls between you!).

In the past when playing multiplayer games each person has been required to own a copy of the game being played. No longer. Only the host needs to own a copy of the game, as the others in the area are able to download data from the game owning person and they can then join in the festivities.

The Sound comes from two Stereo speakers - providing virtual surround sound, depending on the software, and integral headphone socket. I found the sound quality very good although on some games a little quiet.

Battery: lithium ion battery delivering six to 10 hours of play on a four-hour charge, depending on use

So If you like a break from the seriousness of the PSP, PS, XBOX ect, then this is the one for you - highly addictive fun gaming as only Nintendo knows how
