Premium price not premium product (Nintendo DSi)

Advantages: Same as the DS Lite, a nice camera for gimmicky use, more processnig power

Disadvantages: Extra cost with few functional extra benefits

When the DSi first came out you were paying £149.99 for just the console on it's own, but the price is dropping very quickly, £20 cheaper than that already in some shops, while other shops have decided to bundle and chuck in games and accessory packs for no extra cost. Is the cost worth it? The DS Lite hasn't dropped much, with most shops still selling it for just under £100.

The extra features are the camera (one in one out) with editing features, but is this anything more than a gimmick? It depends whether games creators find new and innovative ways to incorporate it into games. It has an SD slot to use as an MP3 and enhanced sound, but in an age where most kids have an iPod, will this get used? The screen is slightly bigger, the console slightly thinner, and the power button is on the inside rather than on the side, but these aren't exactly revolutionary.

However, the DSi is more 4 times powerful processing wise, so it is likely that in the future games will be DSi compatible online. And for me, that is the only reason to part with an extra £30. But if you have young children and the current huge catalogue of games is enough, I would skip this and go with ther DS Lite.

And if you do prefer the DSi, I would wait and see how much further the price drops. And for an announcement as to other colours beside black and white if you want them!
