Advantages: Going to be the most powerful handheld console ever
Disadvantages: Pokemon may be all they work on.
The gameboy has a lot to answer for. I have lost hours playing that damned Tetris, and missed countless bus stations and train stops due to that little bundle of gaming heaven.
Over recent years, the GB has had some massively playable and addictive games. The addition of the colour model made it even more popular and it has gone on to be the most popuar games machine ever. It's price has always been reasonable and they are very sturdy, mine has taken a battering and still works perfectly.
The downside to the GB has always been the lack of power behind it. The graphics were never going to rival its at the time competition like the SNES and Megadrive, and obviously it cant hold a candle to the likes of the DC and the PSX. But this was never the idea, the idea was to give us all the best handheld gaming possible.
Now the time has come to move on, we have the power to make a far more powerful handheld console, and this is what Nintendo are set to unleash on us.
Other handhelds have failed (Gamegear, Lynx) due to a lack of decent games, but Nintendo should have no problems on this front. The Mario series, Resident Evil, Perfect Dark and of course the amazingly irritating and yet successful Pokemon series.
The graphics will be a huge improvement over the original GB and we'll have better sound as well. But there are a few things I'd like to see on the GBA.
Firstly I want it to be a games machine, no PDA add ons, no web capability or trying to make it into a phone/radio/mp3 player or whatever. Lets see all the power channelled into the games, and this could be the finest thing to happen to handheld gaming ever. Its set to be a massive machine, Im sure it will sell games by the bucketload, as it will follow in the gameboys steps.
Backwards compatibilty will also mean a mass of games sales, as we al get those classic games off gameboy in far better style than ever.
These are my GBA hopes for
the gaming front.
Zelda GBA (An original game please)
Resident Evil GBA (I wonder if they can do the 3D on it)
Mario GBA (A roll back to the great 2D games we used to have)
NO POKEMON !!!!!!! (Yeah Right)
I predict that the Pokemon franchise will be all over the GBA from the start, and I just hope it won't suffocate it, we need a real variety of games to make sure the GBA succeeds, and then maybe we will see another 100million units sold like the GB has done.
