Advantages: cheaper than competitors
Disadvantages: worse than competitors
I bought a game cube sometime after it came out. The first thing i noticed was how difficult the joy-pad was to use, it seemed very counter-intuitive, as if the makers tried too hard to be different from the competitors. I think they should have done the simple thing like Microsoft and Sony did, i.e. four buttons on the front and a couple behind. Its controller also felt kind of cheap.
I owned it for several months, and bought around 7 games for it. the ones i liked best were Tony Hawks II and Major League Baseball. THe problem was though, that none of the games really caught my interest. I played Medal of honour of this system, and compared with the version on the playstation, it seemed badly drawn and un involving. This seemed to be a common theme with games which i played.
The lack of a DVD option is in my opinion a massive down point, the makers wanted to make it a purely gaming experience. But why not include the DVD. This is another reason why i would prefer its two competitors, the Xbox and Playstation. expect to pay a lot less now for it than I did, with it being under 100 pounds, this is a good point, also a lot of the games have gone down in price. Still, i cant help but think nintendo have lost contact with what gamers want. They seem to be stuck in the glory days of the SNES and NES when gaming was for a much younger audience, players have grown up, and the games need to reflect this change. All in all, i would not recommed it, the only saving grace being the lower price now offered.
Summary: bad controller, lacking appeal to older audience

- 15/02/06 I can't understand how you can possibly say that any Medal of Hono(u)r game on the Gamecube is less involving than its couterpart on the PS2 or Xbox ... it's the same game! And if you think that cross-platform games are graphically worse on teh Gamecube than on the PS2, I think you need to reconfigure your TV.
But in any case, the Gamecube's not about multiplatform games, it's about system exclusives - none of which you seem to have bought. I can recommend them. |
