Advantages: Good games, some good third party support, solid construction, 4 controller ports
Disadvantages: Many games missed the Gamecube, no DVD player, it looks like a toy!
The Nintendo Gamecube is Nintendos sixth home video game console.
The Gamecube comes in a purple colour though later on they released the console in black, platinum and eve white, as the name suggests it is a cube shape but has a carry handle on the top to aid in transportation of the console. It isn't the best looking machine I have ever seen, it looks rather likea Fisher Price toy! Despite looking like a cheap toy it has a good weight to it and feels very solidly built.
In the box with the console you receive the Gamecube machine itself, a wired Gamecube controller, composite video cables, power cords and instruction manuals. Everything you need to power the machine up, all you need to get yourself going is a game and a memory card!
The console has notably less features than the machines it was competing against the Xbox and Playstation 2, each of those consoles had a DVD drive that would play back movies as well as music CDs. The Gamecube uses a mini DVD drive so it won't play back anything but the standard Gamecube disks. One good thing about the machine is it does have four controller ports so you have no need to purchase a multitap.
The Nintendo Gamecube has a good line up of software titles developed by Nintendo, Super Smash Brothers an excellent fighting game, Mario Kart Double Dash an excellent fun racing game, Super Mario Sunshine an excellent platformer, Metroid Prime an excellent shooter, The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker another epic adventure for Link and many more. Though first party support is excellent the Gamecube was somewhat neglected by third parties, with some exceptions as Capcom made some excellent titles for the system including Resident Evil 4 and Killer 7. Sadly many games skipped the Gamecube being released for the Playstation 2 and Xbox exclusively.
The Gamecube still has a number of great games that if you are a Nintendo fan you will want to play.
Summary: A good console.
