Advantages: Its perfect

Disadvantages: Not enough Games

Gamecube, Gamecube, Gamecube. Where can I start? Firstly the quality of this console is superb. As soon as you take it out of the box you know it’s built to last. The game pads are the best of any console on the market today. Comfortable and robust the two sticks have rubberised pads so the grip is excellent. The shoulder buttons are curved so the fingers sit in well and the buttons are all in thumb reach on the pad (unlike some console game pads). What I especially like is the fact that both adults and children can use this pad comfortably, it just feels good. Like the console they are also built to last, dropping (or throwing) this controller will not break it. Whilst playing on this console I tripped over a friend’s controller cable which almost jerked the Gamecube off the shelf. The game continued to run and didn’t even skip. That’s quality. Back to the console, and it’s many virtues. Being tiny it can sit just about anywhere and has a built in carry handle for portability. The fan is as near to silent, which is a huge bonus as the PS2 and X-Box consoles both have a bit of a noise issue. It has 4 controller ports and two memory card slots and is top loading and the operating system interface is easy to use. It also comes with ATi graphics which means games look great. Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 show the capabilities off perfectly. All in all it is a first class product. The only drawbacks are the lack of games, especially in the player’s choice range, and the fact you can’t play DVD’s or CD’s on it. There may also be a backward compatibility issue should a new Nintendo console be released. Thankfully more game titles are being added at a quicker pace of late. And perhaps the console being dedicated to gaming may not be such a bad idea if it means all the quality is focused on the gameplay.

On the whole I can’t recommend this console enough, especially if you are buying a console for chi
ldren. It comes in Purple, Black and Platinum colours and there is a wireless controller available. The only problem is the lack of good bundle deals and the price is still a bit high at £129, on the other hand though this little baby is going to last for years. It’s just a pity that it is being squeezed out of the market a bit by the opposition.

Not sure you can argue it's too expensive as it's the cheapest of the 3 current consoles. People keep saying it's being forced out of the market, but the last sales figures I saw showed it outselling the XBox... We shall see what happens over Christmas - Game Cube's line-up is looking very strong to me!

It's a shame Argos and Dixons have stopped stocking it.
Also it's rumoured to go down to £70 on the run up to Christmas.
