Advantages: The games!!

Disadvantages: The cardboard boxes...

The N64 has been percieved as a bit of a flop, mainly because of the unprecedented success of the PlayStation. But I would say that for _real_ gamers, the N64 is the machine of choice. Just look at the list of truly amazing games; Super Mario 64 (the first and best true 3D platformer), Zelda 64 (what else do I need to say but BEST GAME EVER!), GoldenEye (best FPS apart from Half-Life and with a superb mulitplayer), as well as PilotWings, Mario Kart, DonkeyKong 64, Jet Force Gemini, Turok2, 1080, Lylat Wars, Waverace, F-Zero X, Mario Golf, Ridge Racer 64, Pokemon Stadium...

Also coming soon are Perfect Dark (semi-sequel to GoldenEye and contender for best game ever), Zelda 64 2, Mario Tennis, Dinosaur Planet and plenty of other games.

The N64 has something of a reputation for "cute" games, but there are gorefests such as the 3 (soon to be 4) Turok games, Shadowman, GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, Resident Evil 2 and others, proving that the N64 can do "adult" titles just as well - if not better - than the PS.

Also, the cartridge based nature of the console means no loading times, no messing about with memory cards, and no piracy problem. The cardboard boxes are horrible mind you!

The N64 also has the best controller around by far, better than the DC's and miles better than the Dual Shock on the PS. Also, as the N64 has 4 joypad ports, you can play 4 player GoldenEye, Mario Kart, Perfect Dark etc., without the need to buy a multitap. Very few PS games support 4 player anyway.

While the PS markets itself as the perfect "after pub" machine, the N64 is the choice of the true gamer. It lacks a decent beat em up, but that is about all it lacks, and is the only place you can play all the classic games above.
You can pick up an N64 with plenty of superb games for next to nothing, and you'd be mad not to. And with the games coming up looking set to extend the N64's life for a good 2 year
s, rumours of the console's demise have been greatly exaggerated!
