Advantages: Fast loading, Good control pad

Disadvantages: Few games, Expensive games

I have never owned an N64, but I currently wn a Playstation and I did own a SNES. The N64 was eagerly awaited after the worldwide success of the SNES which was revolutionary in its time.

But the N64 was never considered as ground-breaking as the SNES. Don't get me wrong it is a great package but it has a few flaws. The first is that it was released AFTER the Playstation and so it was the Playstation that was well established by the time the N64 was available giving it an advantage.

The N64 did have advantages over the Playstation because as it used karts instead of CDs the games were faster loading with almost no delay. Another advantage was that as it was a more powerful console the graphics of games could be better and more detailed along with more levels and charcters in games.

The control pad for the N64 is genius as the combinations always give the player a suitable control method for the game they are playing. (Something which the Sony copied in the analogue and dual-shock controllers).

In my opinion the main reason that the N64 failed is that there are very few games compared to the games available for the Playstation. Despite the Nintendo produced some great games in Goldeneye, Mario 64 and Zelda. The games produced for the console were also very expensive with new releases costing up to £55 while Playstation new releases cost around £30-£40.

All in all I feel that the N64 would have been a success if there were more games available and they were a bit cheaper
