Good console in need of better games. (Nintendo N64)

Advantages: Pretty 3D and some excellent games.

Disadvantages: Not much support.

The N64 has been overshadowed by the Playstation, but it is a good console in its own right. It has proven its capabilities in buidling 3D worlds with games like Goldeneye and Mario 64. The antialiasing used on its graphics may prove to be a matter of taste as it smooths all graphics out, but I like this. The platform is often seen as being targetted at younger audiences, bu there are some good games for the older player and some of the titles for younger players are excellent too.

The only complaint to make about the machine is the sheer lack of quality games. There have been relatively few grade A titles for the platform. That said it's best titles really are superb, things like Mario 64 and Goldeneye are among the very best of games on all platforms. Over the two years I've had the machine I've built up a collection of about 10 games, which perhaps isn't very much, but I've always been careful about which titles I purchased.

The N64 is a good console, but it's on the way out now that the next generation of consoles is on the way. There are still a few interesting titles to come, but if you are looking at consoles it might be worth getting a newer one. Plenty of the older titles are turning up in second hand game shops making things cheaper for the patient. I've certainly enjoyed many hours of gaming on my N64 and so I'd still recommend it.
