Advantages: Good price, backwards compatability, easy innovative controls
Disadvantages: N/A
The Wii is the innovative new console from Nintendo.
The control system is also innovative which gives greater interaction with the games such as in raceing games to steer you tilt the Wiimote left or right and in shoot-em-ups it gives you greater accuracy and the wiimote and nunchuck makes it easy for anyone to play, from people that has never played games to veteran gamers.
Included in the box is Wii sports which includes five games (Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Golf and Boxing). All these games can give you a good workout if played enough and has also been used in some schools for PE lessons.
The console is also backwards compatible with the Nintendo Gamecube games and has four Gamecube control pad ports and two Gamecube memory card slots.
There are a number of Wii channels available from the start and Nintendo are releasing more in the future and these include:
Disk channel: This channel is self explanitory and is used to load the Wii and Gamecube games.
Mii channel: This channel allows you to create a virtual version of yourself altho the options are a little limited. The Miis that you create can also be used in some games such as Wii sports and the forthcomeing MarioKart Wii.
Photo channel: This channel is also self explanitory, allowing you to view photos stored on a SD card. You can also edit the photos and create a slideshow and even add music that is stored on the SD card.
Wii shop channel: This channel allows you to redeem Wii points cards which are available at any store that sells computer games. It also allows you to download retro games from six different consoles (NES, SNES, N64, Sega Megadrive, Turbo Grafix and NEOGEO). The games on virtual console vary in price though from 500 points to 1200 points. You can download new channels as well when they become available from the Wii software section of this channel.
There are also a number of extras that attach to the Wiimote.
All in all i'd recommend this console highly and give it 8.5/10
I have also posted this review on ciao.co.uk
