There can never be any doubting the creative powers that are evident at Nintendo, but even in my wildest dreams did I expect something from them that in my view will change who games are aimed at and increase the market appeal beyond all recognition. That something is called the Nintendo Wii.

It isn't just the fact that the console is well designed and thought out, it is more the fact that Nintendo took the brave decision to steer well clear of a power and graphics struggle with Sony and Microsoft, in favour of gameplay and mass appeal.

The Nintendo Wii is all about getting people of all ages involved in gaming and this was achieved straight away with the launch title Wii Sports. This not only showcased the capabilities of the Wii perfectly, it also got people active and anyone who has played the Wii Sports boxing will tell you how much it makes you hurt the day after.

When you open the box, what is in front of you can look a little daunting, but the instructions are very clear and the fact that it is just a case of a couple of wires plugged in and a sensor positioned and calibrated, make it easy to get started.

The software that has been released for the console since has used the technology really well, especially the magnificent Wii Fit, but you just sense there is so much more to come and I for one am glad to be part of it. I recommend you join the gameplay revolution.
