Advantages: Very Backwards Compatible, fun for all ages

Disadvantages: Weakest console in terms of Hardware performance

Ahh, the humble Wii, released by Nintendo back in december 2006 and units absolutely flew off the shelves, infact there was a severe shortage of units in the United Kingdom as not enough had been allocated.

Why is this? Well several reasons. The Wii is different from the other competitive consoles in the market in several different ways. First of all, and most obvious is the controller. It's completely motion sensored and this feature is incorperated into the gameplay of nearly all Wii games. Secondly, it's considered to be more of a family console and is actually fun for all ages with easy to use and understanding games. The console tries to get the gamer to use of of his or her body whilst playing ie with the release of the wii fit, all games require some form of body movement as opposed to just fingers. It can play almost all gamecube games and has inbuilt wireless so that you can check important news online ie weather, shares etc.

The controller runs off two AA batteries and uses a motion unit which you place ontop of the Tv to pick up the signal. The console itself is very quiet when running. It has 4 slots for the old gamecube controllers and 2 memory card slots so is very backwards compatible. It can be placed on its side or upwards and looks alltogether very modern. It used to be the cheapest out of all 3 consoles retailing at around 180 pounds, the same price at its release date, so is much more affordable. The Wii is very reliable, mine has never broke, has a huge variety of games in its catalogue and nearly all suitable for all ages. It's what I like to call the "Happy console"

So does it have any bad point? Well, if you're a hard core gamer who loves great graphics and games suited to older players, this really isn't your console. In terms of its hardware capabilities, it's the weakest out of all 3 consoles, I'd say the graphics are only marginally better than the ps2. But then again, it's not built for performance, it's built for fun. It has an SD card slot but then again I suppose if you have a card in a different format it's a bit annoying. However you can browse and store photos on your Wii and send them to friends and family. Overall a great console whos sales are currently the strongest out of all 3 consoles.

Summary: A great console for the family
