Advantages: Great fun for whole family, gets you moving while playing
Disadvantages: maybe not for the serious gamer
I had never had a Nintendo console before. I had always tended to go with the Playstation and also Pc games. This console changed all that though. No longer do you just sit in front of a television screen pressing buttons on a controllor( actually you can still do that as it is compatible with the Nintendo Gamecube controllor and games but thats not the point)!
This quite revolutionary piece of technology detects movement in three dimensions controlled by a Wii remote controllor and sensor on top of the television screen to transfer those movements in to video game images on screen.
As a result of this the Wii is able to produce games which can use a persons movement to detect what will happen on screen. The prime example is with Wii sports which is the game that comes with the console. In the tennis game for example you have to swing the remote up and pretend to hit the ball in order to serve the ball then swing the remote again and try to time the swing so as to hit the ball. Another game is boxing where you use the Wii remote and also the nunchuck controllor which is the extension for the wii remote and is used for some games but not others. With the boxing game for example the Wii remote is one arm and the nunchuck the other and you use them to swing punches and block like you would in real boxing almost. The wii can be physically demanding especially with games such as boxing.
There are a few other games I have as well such as Mario and Sonic and Fifa. I have also written separate reviews for these games and they are enjoyable on the Wii once you get the hang of them.
The Wii is great fun for the whole family and the large success of it is due to the fact it is accessible to almost anyone of any age from very young to very old. It caters for a large demographic and this probably explains the large number of worldwide sales above those of the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Summary: great fun for the whole family
