Advantages: The whole family entertainment

Disadvantages: Small selection of games, but this is improveing. Last generation graphics

Hi, I first purchased the Wii as a christmas present in 2007. As a gamer a large period of time (although I would not consider myself a hardcore gamer) I was a little dubious about purchasing the Wii, due to Nintendo's last offering the Game Cube. But as this was for a close family member that prefered less traditional games I went ahead and purchased the Wii. One of the first problems that I encountered was actually pruchasing one, as it was never in stock due to the high demand. When I purchased it, it was a basic bundle that include one controler, a nunchuck and and the Wii Sports game, for £179, or there about.

The console is one of the easiest to set up to the TV and connect the control to the console. The best piece of advise that I would offer is to buy a second controller and nunchuck so at least two people can play multiplayer games such as the Wii Sports together, as this unlocks the Wii full potential. But the Control and nunchuck are on the expensive side, £40 - £45 for the two, so be prepared for this.

The Wii can be seen as revolutionary due to its motion sensor contols to play games. One of the problems with the motion sensory system is the is slight delay when a quick reaction or motion is required. Nintendo recognise this and are remedying this with the motion plus attachment which is due to be released.

One aspect that I can't comment on is the online part of the Wii has I have not used this part, as so far I have not seen any reason to use this, but this may change due to the online content that Nintendo has relased.

Although the Wii may be revolutionary I have found it to be a let down in certain areas, such as the type of games that have been relased for the Wii and the lack of use of the motion sensor technology in different game genres. Although this is starting to change with increaseing third party support for games. An example of this is the genre that I enjoy playing, first person shooters, and a recent game of House of the Dead: Overkill, that allows a person to attach the contol to a gun holder to play the game.

The game that was included Wii Sports, I would consider, one of the best family games to be include as part of a bundle, as it allows all member of the family to play, due to its wide range of appeal.

One of the problems or disapointments I find with the Wii is the graphics, which are of last generation (PS2, Game Cube, Xbox ect) quality, which is disapointing but Nintendo do not hide this fact, and with the price I paid for it, is of no real suprise for the price I paid for it. But the Wii certianly would not even be in competition on the graphic states with the PS3 or Xbox 360. Although the Wii can produce 720i graphics, but this is through a component cable that is purchased seperately, I have not bought this but am looking to due to rave reviews of the improvement in quality.

When reviewing whether I make a good purchase of the Wii, I would say I have due to the amount of fun all the family get from playing it, also has the number of games increases my interest in playing on it will also increase. A point to make is to have a wide selection of games as only haveing a small number can become repetitive and from this I do lose interest for short period, but this is a point with all consoles.

Summary: If looking for family recreation in the house look no further
