Advantages: Basic, fun and interactive
Disadvantages: Graphics and detail
Before the wii, I'd never been a nintendo fan. I'd gone through sony's playstation, microsoft's x-box, and of course, sega's mega drive; but not once did I envisage myself wanting to own a nintendo console...Then along comes wii and I'll admit it, I've fallen in love with nintendo!
Serious gamers look away now, because this console is clearly not for you. It's aimed at a specific set of people; those of us who look something practical, interactive, and maybe even a bit gimmicky. What this revolutionary multimedia console offers, is the chance for you to feel like you really are a part of the game - you actually swing the sword when you slay that dragon, you actually make that tennis serve, and you actually throw that knock out punch in a boxing ring. For those of us who love to feel a part of the action, this console offers exactly what you want. The developing use of this console can be seen through equipment such as the wii balance board, allowing you to feel like you've had a real snowboarding experience!
It's talents are there for all to see, as it draws consoles into a whole new game. No longer are good graphics and detailed gameplay alone going to win you the console market; sony and microsoft have a new, never before seen form of competition.
If you're a serious gamer, you'll be fed up of this console after the novelty of the first week wears off; undoubtedly the x-box 360 or ps3 are far more suited to you. The graphics aren't great but are improving with each game developed (shaun white snowboarding for example offers great graphics) and the depth of gameplay isn't great either. The detail within gameplay of course, would be difficult to facilitate when the wii is so interactive; and trying to over-complicate games will end in frustration for the gameplayer.
So wii games should stick to the consoles strengths; responsive, interactive, basic, but a whole load of fun.
The wii is fantastic is you're having a house party or even just a few mates over. The basic gameplay means no more detailed explanations of what buttons to press when, and inevitably less arguments! And a game of bowling with a couple of mates never fails to bring enjoyment.
Summary: Fantastic if you're not a serious gamer
