Advantages: playability, sociable, good range of games
Disadvantages: graphics aren't always great (but I don't really mind this!)
I will have to start this by saying that I am NOT a gamer. I never had a console as a child, and my only experiences in the gaming world are the rare occasions I had a go on my brother's Playstation!
It was my boyfriend's birthday earlier this month and, having played on one at friend's houses, he seemed quite keen on getting a Wii. I spent a LONG time on the internet finding the best price, eventually finding the best deal at the time at Toys R Us! I opted for the basic console package, as I am wary of bundles - who knows if the games will be any good?
The fun-factor of the Wii is amazing - you really feel that you are more involved in the games you are playing! To swing a bat you need to actually swing your arm, not just press some random buttons! Whilst the graphics on a lot of the games are very simple, you make that up in sheer playability. The range of games available for the Wii is also varied, so you can find something for all of the family - if you have one! We have everything from wrestling games, through to traditional platform style games and even versions of board games and fitness workout programmes! Looking around games shops, there are also a lot of games which are aimed at young children, which I think would be a big bonus for a parent on a rainy weekend. The kids can play during the day, and then the adults can play, once the kids are in bed!
The Mii application is great fun too - you can create a character that looks like you to play with in games - you can even save it on your remote and take it to play with on other people's consoles! I had lots of fun creating my Mii - before I had even played a game I was enjoying it!
This is also a very sociable console, having a group of friends round and playing on the Wii is much more fun and all-inclusive than on most other consoles (that I have experienced anyway)
I really do think that the more interactive and physical elements of this console is going to be the future of gaming - nearly everyone I know who has one has said that they don't really use other consoles any more which, from some serious gamers, is quite a compliment and a real thumbs up to Nintendo.
Summary: A fabulous console, well worth the investment

- 05/10/09 I'm not much of a gamer either. I got bored of my playstation as a kid and sold it to a friend but I love the Wii too. |
