Advantages: Great console
Disadvantages: Cartridges were a pain
I do have realy fond memories of the Sega Mega Drive, the 16 bit console was the star of the Sega Empire in the early nineties and I much preferred it to the competition from Nintendo.
Compared with what is on offer today is was a basic model suitable only for playing games and there was no need to worry about onine playing. It had two sockets for controlers allowing for two player games. The controls were not that different to those currently available only with a few less buttons. It took games in a cartridge format and these were inserted into the top of the console.
What was great about the console was the fact that it was fairly small and light and quite robust so it was easy to transport around to use at your friends house.
It had a great set of games to play, many of these can be found in the retro editions to play on the latest consoles, by far the best had to be Sonic the Hedgehog as the action was so fast and highly addictive, I can remember many long nights in my student days playing on it until teh early hours instead of doing my studies.
Summary: Great console from the 1990's
