Okay, so I have been playing games since I was tiny (thanks parents!) but no console has kept me as entertained as the Playstation 2. I got mine for Christmas in 2003 and have always gone back to playing it since then.

Part of the appeal is it's ability to play Playstation 1 games on it. I had amassed a rather large collection and didn't want to get rid of them so this was the perfect arrangment for me. Occasionally mine does like to take its time with loading them up but that's due to scratched disks :O While the Playstation 3 may have beautiful graphics and a greater compatbility with the Internet, the backwards compatability feature is burdened with flaws and takes away the glossiness of the PS2 graphics. The PS2 does not do this to the PS1 games you can play on it (not that PS1 games have the most amazing graphics available but what ho!).

It doesn't look as sleek as the PS3 and, to be quite frank, mine is bulky and has the aesthetic quality of a brick. Don't let this put you off though as it doesn't affect the quality of your gaming experience and there are the slimline models available now. The new slimline models are small, very modern looking and are easy to store if you are not a regular gamer.

The amount of games available for this console is fantastic. I still find titles that capture my attention more than ones on newer consoles and new titles are still being released. Some of the best games made are on this console so don't miss out! As cliche as it sounds, there really are games for everyone in the family for the PS2.

I can't find any reason to get rid of mine yet. It still brings me so much fun, even with the shiny graphics of Next-Gen gaming, and for the price they go at now it's definitely worth purchasing. They may not have all the features of the Next-Gen consoles but the amount of games you can purchase for the PS2 more than makes up for this.
