Playstation 2.

-Features-

The Playstation 2 (or PS2 as it's more commonly known) is the second games console in the Playstation series. It boasts lots of new and powerful features such as a more powerful graphics engine, the ability to read and play DVDs and also to play any older Playstation 1 games.

Personally I think the Playstation 2 is one of the best consoles ever made and is very hard to beat, both price wise and fun wise. They are very reliable, durable and consistant with their lasers lasting for many years.

The Playstation 2 is also the best selling console to date, selling 140 million units by July 2008. I think this speaks volume enough on it's own, I own 2 personally and don't have any regret on buying either.

-Dual Shock 2-

The Playstation 2 also boasted a new feature with an upgrade to the Dual Shock controller which has a built in vibrate function (force feedback). These normally come in black but you can also get them in silver. Mine are both black.

-Memory Cards-

The Sony Playstation 2 has it's own memory card system too which is a bit unfair I think personally. You can use a PS1 memory card in a PS2 but you can't do it visa versa. A PS2 memory card won't work in a PS1. The memory card i have comes as 8mb standard and is in black.

-Slim Line Version-

Sony have also released a newer, slim-line Playstation 2 similar to what they did with the original Playstation. It costs extra but doesn't do anything special other than look less bulky, which is not really worth it in my opinion.

The UK standard for any Playstation is PAL so make sure your games and console are both, or you'll run into problems. The main and most dangerous problem is if you buy a second hand console that happens to be NTSC (USA standard) and you plug it in, it'll blow the circuits inside due to the voltage difference, so be careful!

-Prices-

So what does the PS2 cost? Second hand on eBay they range from £20-£80 depending on the condition and what comes with them really. For a brand new console you're looking at the £80-£120 mark. For something so versatile with so much potential and a massive fun factor, it's well worth the price tag.

As for extras, a dual-shock controller will set you back between £10-£20 aswell as a memory card for those essential games which costs around £5-£10 for an 8mb card.

-Games-

The games vary a lot for the Playstation 2 as there is so many different games. Personally I like RPGs (Role Playing Games) such as the Final Fantasy series and you can find a number of similar games for the Playstation 2. My favourite games are Final Fantasy 10, Final Fantasy 12 and Shadow Hearts, they're the best RPGs on the PS2. In my opinion, if you enjoy console games then you had better own a PS2!
