Advantages: Great games, Cheap now, Plays DVDs

Disadvantages: Weird design

The Sony Playstation 2 is Sonys second home console delivering great games and multimedia features too.

The console itself is a rather square-ish design. It's a big black box with ridges down it; I'm not quite sure what Sony's designers were thinking when they made this machine because it does look a little strange! The console is easily positioned horizontally or vertically depending on your personal preference and will work fine either way. The console has a blue PS2 logo on the front of it and has two buttons one to open the motorised disk tray and one to power the system on.

The console itself is powered by the Emotion Engine which as it is named is meant to bring more emotion into your games, it works to a degree as it does make characters more lifelike, compared wit the original Playstation, and thus makes them easier to relate too. That said the Emotion Engine isn't as powerful as the chips in the Xbox or Gamecube that the Playstation 2 was competing with. The Playstation 2 was also the first console to offer DVD video playback out of the box.

Unboxing this machine you will find, the Playstation 2, extensive manuals, a Sony Dualshock 2 controller, Composite AV leads and power leads. As with the original Playstation you will have to buy yourself a memory card to save your data, unless you play through games all in one go!

The game library of the Playstation 2 is extremely diverse, you of course get all the multiplatform titles like your EA Sports games along with many great exclusives. Final Fantasy X, the emotion journey of Tidus, Gran Turismo, an epic racing game, Metal Gear Solid, Solid Snakes adventures continued along with many more this is a system that has some excellent titles.
