Advantages: Very good value for money, wide variation of games

Disadvantages: not the most powerful

People have many views on the PS2. Most of the negative views come from those that dont own one. Those that do own one, really can say that it is absolutely brilliant. Now statistic wise, it isnt the most powerful console in creation. The Gamecube and the Xbox surpass it on many occasions. But in my oppinion the quality of the gameplay is most important. Yea, speed and graphics apply too but they are nothing if the gameplay is absolutely crap. But the thing is, the PS2 has proven to be very popular and has blown previous demand expectations. People just couldnt wait. Some even took the money and the time to order the japanese version, and then when it was released here they bought that as well.

The controller for the PS2 is so much more simple and effective than its rivals. U can get ure hands round it, and access the majority of the buttons at the same time. Whereas the gamecube controller looks lke some warped baby toy which was molded into some random shapes. It doesnt look proffessional, it doesnt look serious and it doesnt look cool. The PS2 features are so much more kind of, serious and adult like. Unlike the gamecube being more childish. The Xbox is more really a portable computer. Except not like a laptop where u can play anywhere, but u have to plug it up to the TV, which on recent experiments, u an do the same to a laptop. To be absolutely sincere i would rather have a laptop which was really good, fast and internet ready, than an Xbox.

As for the game play, the PS2 offers a wide variation of games, for all different types of genre. Be it shoot 'em ups or fighting. Racing orpuzzle. Having many of the game producers working for games on the PS2 is a good thing. There are literally hundreds of games out at the moment, all of good gameplay and ofcourse stunning graphics, compared to the meagre 10-20 out on the gamecube and the Xbox.

And also, when u buy a PS2 u get with it a DVD player. I think thats great due to the fact that
most people wouldnt dish out hundreds for a proper DVD player. But get the chance to get a games system and a DVD player all for around £250. Im sure the Xbox will have that function, however im positive that it will be more expensive.

The PS2 will later on in life provide the internet to the console world. We will have a broadband unit that slots into the back provding people to download and play people across the world. An exciting prospect to say the least. Then there is the HardDrive that is coming out late this year. It will store massive ammounts of data.

Ultimately, the PS2 is the most popular and most varied console around, and with games like Metal Gear Solid2 and SSX Tricky and Onimusha2, i think its well worth getting.
