Advantages: Free DVD player, Plays PS1 games, Number of games available

Disadvantages: Lack of Internet Capability, Cost of brand new games

I bought my PlayStation 2 about a month ago and I do not regret it all.

If anyone is waiting for the right time to buy, then I think that now is it.

The playstation 2 is a very well rounded product, with good features. I know nothing of its specification, although I've heard people saying that its advantage against the PC platform is that the bus speed is constant throughout it all runs at 700Mhz. To anyone who doesn't know or care about figures (including myself) this means:
"She's fast enough for you old man"
To quote Han Solo.

I feel the main advantage of that Sony have achieved is that they have got in to the market early and have dominated it quickly, with features and the quality and quantity of games.

What I mean is the Playstation one was the leader when it was at its height, it put out more games than anyone else and also could play music CDs.

Now the PS2 has been released ahead of its competition: The XBox and the Gamecube, and it is already ahead.

Yes all three can play DVDs but the XBox and the Gamecube need add ons before they can even play DVDs. I've tried them in my PS2 and they work first time, I haven't got a remote control because I can use the control pad. It works perfectly.

Also, and I think this is a killer which not everybody realises: The PS2 can play PS1 games!
You cannot play N64 games on a gamecube (to my knowledge) as Nintendo have converted from expensive to produce cartridges to CDs.

The PS2 games that are being released are great, and numerous. I've got Starfighter and its very fast, fun and easy to play. Devil May Cry is dark and haunting and very playable. Gran Tourismo 3 is so fantastic I paid full price for it - and I don't regret it.

The price at the moment is just below 200 pounds, which is always going to be less than the competition, and there are even some second hand models to be found on the in
ternet. I bought mine new because it was worth it and there was only 3 left in the whole town. More deliveries are coming regularly however and the price will fall.

Finally it looks good, its black and stylish, and comes with a rumbling analog controller, scart leads and a demo CD.

To sum up, I think that the PS2 will hold its own against the XBox and the Gamecube and be one of the 2 to survive the console market war.

Simple effective writing. Not too much info (which is nice, I wouldn't want to re-read everything that's thrown at us in the press) but useful views. Good stuff. Ta.

I like the availability of cheap(er) games once a new console comes out too. Not that I'd ever buy a games console.
