Advantages: Pretty much everything !

Disadvantages: The online service and the price isn't great .

Sony are known as one of the biggest gaming console manufactures in the world. Now they have released their newest "next-gen" console, and the fourth edition to the Playstation family. The Playstation 3 has some impressive specs yet not so many good reviews. Critics aren't impressed with it's price and technical problems. This has led to many Playstation 2 owners switching to one of Sony's biggest competitors Microsoft's game console - the Xbox 360. I could do a comparison of the consoles but instead I am reviewing the PS3 two years after realse. This review is based on my own personal experience's and I know this is likely to upset console "fanboys". I am a proud owner of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and I think it's a fab console but 2009 looks to be a much brighter year for the Sony and forthe PS3 this is much needed. For the first year since the launch of the Xbox 360 there isn't any major that every owner wants. However the opposite can be said for the PS3 already this year and from the last quarter of last year exclusive titles such as Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2 and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift have been on the top of most gamers most wanted lists. This surge in PS3 exclusives looks to continue into the rest of 2009 and is just one of many reasons why now is the right time to buy the Playstation 3.
Of course the Playstation still has it's flaws. And the PS3 was riddled with them at launch now however the price is coming down and many of the early bugs have been sorted. The online service isn't on par with Xbox Live's network but the Playstation Network (PSN) is completely free unlike the subscription based service Microsoft uses. But the great things that Sony were eager to brag about from the beginning of the PS3 are finally become more and more useful. Blu-Ray is the only HD Disc format being used now and a large amount of movie enthusiasts are adding Blu-Ray discs to their collection for the better video quality. The PS3 is still one of the cheapest Blu-Ray players and as it updates drivers via the PSN it is certainly one of the best. Another feature is the superior processor which is now being used in Sony's exclusive games such as Killzone 2. The visual quality of that game is second only to Crysis on Very High, and you don't need a super computer to play it. Remote play, a nifty little app that allows you to use your PS3 via a PSP is becoming more useful recently and many new PSP game are add features that use the PS3's remote play capabilities well. And not to forget the PS3 isn't just a gaming console it's a home media centre complete with it's own internet browser allowing you to surf the net from your living room while you listen to music or download games. The Xbox 360 has most of these features also and with a better online community service but don't forget it is a media extender meaning you need to have a PC with Vista or an XP version of Media centre installed. Not to mention the difficulties I had to connect the two together.

But you don't play a gaming console because it has multi-media capabilities. You buy it for the games. Like I have said the games coming out this year look amazing. So "where did Sony go wrong?" Not releasing their new console at the standard it is today. If the PS3 at launch was as good as it is now (with a slightly better online service) no one, honestly not anyone would be buying a single console from Microsoft. Halo 3? Please we have so much more.

Summary: Where did Sony go wrong with the PS3? Well in this review I also show where they went right!
