After years of sticking to my desktop PC i decided i wanted a console. I chose to PS3 for a few reasons. It is essentially a dedicated PC in a box. There are no compatability issues as all the hardware is the same which is certainly not the case for personal computers. I was not dissapointed with my purchase. With bluetooth connectivity there are no wires to get in the way and you dont even have to point the controllers at the system like you do with tv remotes for example. it was also the cheapest blu ray player on the market, meaning that the games system could be considered a bonus!

If you plan on buying one of these then i would suggest you get a large screen HD ready tv. As with a normal CRT TV you will not like the picture at all, upgrading to HD is a must in my opinion, as i ran out to buy one after only one day with the console.

The built in wireless means you can connect to your home wireless network very easily and be online with your console, without having to buy any other parts or subscriptions, and was one of the main reasons i chose PS3 over say an XBOX 360.

Arguments as to which console has the best graphics will be going forever, each system has its plusses and minusses. The graphics are fantastis on the PS3 and they are as good on other systems, so i would reccommend that if you cannot decide between PS3. XBOX or Wii for example then you should look at the games available for each, also the prices, and mainly decide which of the controllers you like. If you hate the PS3 controller and love the XBOX controller, buy the XBOX! However if you cannot decide see what your friends have and be able to play them online should make the choice easier.

Summary: choice of console can be difficuly, research before purchase!
